Diabetes is becoming one of the most common diseases of our time. As obesity rates rise, so does diabetes. It is overburdening the healthcare system, and there is no end in sight. Diabetes is a disease where the body can’t use insulin properly, or it can’t make enough insulin at all. Insulin is a hormone that helps the body use glucose. It also helps the body store extra sugar in fat, liver, and muscle cells. If you don’t have insulin in your body, then your body can’t use any of the sugar that is in the bloodstream. Sugar will build up in the blood to levels that will put a person’s life at risk, and they could go into a coma. This is a life-and-death situation.
